FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Your questions – our answers
What does a customised illuminated advertising system cost?
The price depends on the size, design, technology and installation effort – simple systems start at around €1,000.
The price can vary greatly depending on the project. Factors include
Materials used (aluminium, stainless steel, acrylic, etc.)
Type of lighting (front light, back light, RGB, dimmable, etc.)
Size and shape of the system
Costs for authorisation, statics, assembly
Special requests such as sensors or controls
We prepare customised offers after an initial consultation or inspection – free of charge and without obligation.
Do you need a licence for illuminated advertising?
Yes – in most cases, authorisation from the building authority is required.
This applies in particular to illuminated installations, pylons, movable elements or advertising on listed facades. We can do it for you:
Application
technical drawings
Site plans & structural analyses
Communication with authorities
We check whether an application is necessary directly at the start of the project.
How long-lasting is outdoor LED advertising?
LED systems generally last 30,000-50,000 operating hours – that is up to 10 years.
The prerequisite is the use of high-quality components and professional installation.
We only install tested LED modules with many years of experience – including thermal protection, overvoltage protection and UV-resistant materials. Replaceable LED elements enable easy maintenance when required.
How long does the realisation take from design to installation?
Usually 2-6 weeks – depending on project size, approval and authorisations.
Procedure:
Initial consultation & planning
Offer and design
Production release
Production (Ø 10-15 working days)
Assembly by our team
Building applications extend the lead time by approx. 2-4 weeks. Express projects are possible on request.
What is the difference between profile letters, pylons & light boxes?
Profile letters are single letters, pylons are free-standing advertising systems, light boxes are flat illuminated advertising.
Profile letters: 3D letters directly on the façade or on a support system – illuminated or non-illuminated.
Pylons: large, free-standing advertising steles with foundations – ideal for access roads, streets or car parks.
Light boxes: flat or deep boxes with interior lighting – classic on walls, brackets or free-hanging.
All variants can be combined – customised for every application.
What happens in the event of a power failure or defect?
Our systems are modular & easy to maintain – repairs usually within 1-2 working days.
In the event of a fault, we first check the transformer, control unit and LEDs.
It is often sufficient to replace individual components.
For complex systems, we also offer maintenance contracts or remote maintenance for digital displays.
Does Light & Sign also install outside the headquarters?
Yes – we work nationwide with our own teams.
Our locations in Magdeburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Leipzig, Buchholz, etc. enable short journeys to any region.
We also provide standardised support for supra-regional chain stores or system catering – with central coordination and local implementation.
Can agencies or technicians order from you as resellers?
Yes – we offer an attractive reseller programme with white label service & support.
We offer advertising technicians, architectural offices and agencies:
Neutral design & delivery
Assembly on behalf of the client
Technical advice & data sheets
Discounts for series production
Further information: Reseller Programme
How much electricity does an LED illuminated advertising system consume?
Modern LED advertising is extremely energy-efficient – depending on its size, a system usually only consumes 20-150 W.
The exact power consumption depends on:
the number and quality of the LEDs used
the brightness (luminance) and lighting duration
Possible control via timer or twilight sensor
Type of installation (e.g. backlight, pylon, light box)
Compared to conventional light sources, LEDs save up to 80 % energy.
What colours are possible with illuminated advertising?
Almost all colours are possible – from white and RGB to dynamic effects.
We offer:
Fixed-colour LEDs (e.g. warm white, cool white, red, green, blue)
RGB LEDs with changeable colours and colour transitions
Control via app, remote control or time programme
Additional translucent coloured films or coloured acrylic glass
CI-compliant colours can also be implemented precisely.
Are there also sustainable options for advertising systems?
Yes – we rely on durable materials, energy-saving LEDs and recyclable components.
Our contribution to sustainability includes:
Up to 90 % lower power consumption thanks to LED technology
Modular design for easy repair
Recyclable materials such as aluminium or PMMA
Resource-saving packaging & logistics
We also offer optional maintenance-free systems and intelligent lighting control.
What happens if my company logo is very complex?
Even very complex logos can be realised – using milling technology, digital printing or modular design.
Technically possible:
Contour-milled individual parts (also in several levels)
Tensioning systems with high-resolution digital printing
Combination of print, light and moulded parts
LED backlighting for complex structures
We advise on the best realisation to suit your logo and location.
How high can an advertising system be?
The height depends on the location – free-standing systems can usually be authorised up to approx. 6-8 m.
Influencing factors:
Building area & current development plan
Distance to neighbours & public traffic routes
Wind load & statics
Light immission & glare
If applicable, monument protection or design statutes
We check the building law framework conditions individually and take care of the authorisation on request.
Can you also modernise or retrofit existing systems?
Yes – we modernise e.g. lighting, front design or entire constructions.
Typical measures:
Replacing neon or fluorescent tubes with LEDs
New logos or CI-compliant front panels
Technical retrofitting (e.g. controls, dimmers, sensors)
Cleaning, painting or redesigning
Modernisation saves energy, reduces maintenance costs and significantly improves the external image.
Can I control the illuminated advertising using a timer or app?
Yes – our systems can be controlled manually, automatically or digitally.
You can choose between:
Mechanical or digital timer
Twilight switch with sensor
Motion detector (for signs or shop windows)
App or cloud control (e.g. via smartphone, browser)
Integration into smart home or building technology systems (KNX, API)
We plan the control system individually to suit your utilisation profile.
